Clarinet

Clarinet

Also known as the B-flat Clarinet, or Soprano Clarinet, this instrument makes its sound by vibrating a single reed that is clamped on to a hard mouthpiece with a little space between to blow into.

The player holds the clarinet in front of them, gently resting the mouthpiece in their mouth, and blows through the instrument. Then they use their fingers to close and open holes to change the notes.

It produces a nice warm, mellow tone and so we always like to have lots of clarinets in Band. In fact, there are usually more clarinets than any other member of the woodwind family!
