The trombone has to be one of the funnest instruments to play in band. Instead of using valves to make it longer or shorter, it uses a slide so you can physically see it getting longer and shorter!
It is a low brass instrument, playing notes an octave lower than the trumpet. This also means that it is twice as long and has a bigger mouthpiece.
Because it is a lower sounding instrument, you need to buzz slower. And because you can slide smoothly between notes, there are a lot of cool sound effects you can do that other instruments can’t...
Don’t worry if you think your arms are not long enough – you won’t use the furthest out position for a while…
