Duo Pianist Sarah Ortega & Wen Wang in Recital

Tom Lee Music Richmond

A two-piano recital will be presented by Sarah Ortega and Wen Wang on Friday, August 24 at 6 PM at Tom Lee Music Richmond. The program will include Schumann, Arensky, Debussy, and Rachmaninov.

Sarah began her lessons at age 4 and completed her Performers ARCT shortly after her 13th birthday. She received the Richmond Branch RMT medal for the highest ARCT mark in that session, and also received the Richmond Branch Scholarship for 2014-2015 based on her mark. Sarah continues to expand her repertoire and perform. Now 16, Sarah is entering grade 11 at Richmond Secondary School where she is very involved in the music department. She plays piano for Vocal Jazz, and the double bass for concert band. Sarah has won awards for "Performance in Music", "Outstanding Achievement in Music", and has been on the Honour Roll. With school, she has also performed at Gateway Theatre several times, as a piano soloist and accompanist, and in concert band and vocal jazz performances.

In early 2017, Sarah and Wen formed a duo, and have performed a variety of two-piano music.

Wen completed his ARCT in Piano Performance in 2012 and ARCT in Piano Pedagogy in 2015. Wen was the RCM 2015 National Gold Medalist for the ARCT in Piano Pedagogy, also garnering the Richmond Branch Scholarship for his achievement. Wen was the recipient of the 2015 Associate Teachers Award from the Provincial BCRMTA. This award also granted Wen membership in the Richmond Branch. From RCM, he received the Gordon Hallett Memorial Scholarship of $1500 for the highest aggregate mark in ARCT Piano Pedagogy in Canada, covering 2014-2015. Wen has graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical and Biological Engineering and a minor degree in Psychology.
