Competition Details

This year, VMO will carry on Burnaby Clef Society’s tradition to host VMO’s 3rd annual Clef Concerto Competition. The Competition will take place over three days with two categories of players (Junior 12 years old & under and Senior 13-25 years old). The entrant must be of stated age as of Apr.30, 2018.

The winner of the Junior division (12 years & under) will be awarded an opportunity to be showcased at future VMO events. The winner from the Senior division (13-25 years) will be awarded an opportunity to perform with VMO at its Season Finale Concert in 2019. We encourage all those interested in participating, please submit your application as soon as possible. Application deadline is Apr.30, 2018.

Rules and Regulations

1. If the concerto chosen by the entrant is not in the library of the VMO then the student will be required to pay for the purchase or rental of the concerto.
2. The adjudicator reserves the right to cut a performance if they feel a sufficient evaluation has been made.
3. A piece performed in Round 1 cannot be repeated in Round 2.
4. All performers will play behind a screen for round one.
5. No marks nor adjudication sheets will be handed out at the end of a performance.
6. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should the adjudicator be approached by any person. This includes competitors, teachers, parents, relatives, friends or accompanists. An infraction of this rule will result in the competitor’s elimination from the festival.
7. Registered protests MUST be made in writing to the festival committee during the Festival and accompanied by a protest fee of $50.00 The fee will be returned if the protest is sustained.
8. By sending this application it is understood that the requirements have been read and accepted by the entrant.
9. The winners of round two will be announced on Saturday at the May 26th concert. DO NOT PHONE.
