Sensational musical performances, an auction full of surprises, and inspiring speeches all contributed to the success of last week's EGRC fundraising gala at the Four Seasons Hotel. As a result of the huge support, $210,000 was raised to help support impoverished girls of rural China.

To launch the gala, Dr. Jan Walls, SFU Professor Emeritus, performed clapper tales about the story of EGRC, which received a warm reception from the audience. Twelve recipients of the EGRC scholarship were introduced on the stage. One of whom is currently studying at SFU for her doctorial degree. Musical peformances by violins, guzheng, and the Steinway piano brought the gala to climax. 10% of the proceeds will benefit EGRC West.

Since its establishment 10 years ago, EGRC West has raised funds to allow for over 500 girls to seek out a promising post-secondary education, and over 200 of them have already completed their studies.
